Community Guidelines & Terms of Use
22-LIFE is built by veterans, for veterans and first responders. This platform exists to provide connection, resources, and hope. Our mission is to help bring the number of veteran suicides to zero. To protect that mission and every person in this community, we ask that all members read and respect the following terms. By creating an account or using this platform in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account or use 22-LIFE. By registering, you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older. If we learn that a user is under 18, that account will be terminated immediately. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.
This platform is intended for veterans, active duty service members, first responders, and their immediate family and supporters. Use of this platform for any other commercial or unrelated purpose is prohibited without prior written consent from 22-LIFE.
2. Content Advisory
22-LIFE may contain content related to combat, trauma, mental health struggles, and other topics that may be difficult for some individuals. By entering this platform, you acknowledge that you may encounter such content and that viewer discretion is your responsibility.
If you are in crisis at any time, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or text HELLO to 741741 (Crisis Text Line). Veterans-specific support is available 24/7 at the Veterans Crisis Line: call 988 and press 1.
3. What We Stand For
We believe in freedom of expression. This platform will not censor political opinions, criticism of institutions, dark humor, raw and unfiltered storytelling, or content that reflects the realities of military and first responder life. We don't sanitize your experience. We trust you to handle it.
4. What Is Not Allowed
This is a short list. We mean it.
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — zero tolerance, immediately reported to authorities and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). No exceptions.
- Classified or sensitive government/military information — posting, sharing, or distributing classified documents, sensitive military operational details, personally identifiable information of service members, or any material that is restricted under U.S. law is strictly prohibited. Such content will be removed immediately and may be reported to the appropriate federal authorities.
- Credible threats of violence — toward yourself or others. Content that constitutes a direct, credible threat will be removed and may be reported to law enforcement.
- Detailed suicide method content — sharing your struggle is encouraged. Detailed instructions on methods of self-harm are not permitted.
- Non-consensual intimate imagery — sharing sexual images or videos of any person without their explicit consent is prohibited and may be reported to law enforcement.
- Doxxing — posting someone's personal information (address, phone number, unit, workplace, family members) with intent to harm or harass.
- Impersonation — pretending to be another person, service member, or organization with intent to deceive.
- Spam and coordinated inauthentic behavior — automated posting, fake accounts, or using the platform to manipulate or mislead users.
Everything else? Tell your story. Unfiltered. That's what this place is for.
5. Explicit Content
22-LIFE supports two content modes: Safe Mode and Full Mode. Users who opt into Full Mode may encounter adult or graphic content that has been self-labeled as explicit by the posting user. Users in Safe Mode will never see explicitly-labeled content.
If you post content that is sexually explicit, graphically violent, or otherwise adult in nature, you must label it as explicit at the time of posting. Failure to properly label explicit content may result in its removal or your account being suspended. 22-LIFE reserves the right to re-label or remove any content determined to be explicit regardless of how it was posted.
Even in Full Mode, the prohibited content listed in Section 4 is never permitted under any circumstances.
6. Anonymous Posting
We support anonymous posting because we understand the culture. Asking for help is hard. Posting anonymously removes a barrier — and that barrier costs lives. Use it as you need it. Anonymous posts are still subject to these guidelines. Anonymity does not shield you from account action if prohibited content is posted.
7. Automated Crisis Detection
All posts on 22-LIFE including the community feed and Support Rooms are subject to automated content analysis to detect language that may indicate a member is in crisis or considering self-harm. When such language is identified, the post is automatically pinned to the top of the feed or room with a visible alert so the community can rally around that person, regardless of whether the member chose to flag their post themselves.
This is not a punitive measure. No post is removed. No account is penalized. The sole purpose is to make sure no one in this community quietly disappears without others having the chance to show up for them.
By posting anywhere on 22-LIFE, you acknowledge that your message may be subject to this automated analysis and that content indicating crisis may be elevated in this way.
8. Reporting Content
If you see content that violates these guidelines, use the report button on the post or profile. Our team will review it. We are a small, mission-driven team — not a corporation. We will handle reports with the seriousness they deserve. We reserve the right to take action on any reported content at our sole discretion, including removal of content and termination of accounts.
9. Account Suspension & Termination
22-LIFE reserves the right to suspend, restrict, or permanently terminate any account at any time, with or without notice, for any reason including but not limited to:
- Violation of these Terms of Use
- Behavior that threatens the safety or wellbeing of other members
- Posting prohibited content as defined in Section 4
- Repeated violations after prior warnings
- Any use of the platform that 22-LIFE determines, in its sole discretion, to be harmful to the community or its mission
You may appeal a suspension by contacting us directly. All decisions on permanent bans are final at the discretion of 22-LIFE administration.
10. Intellectual Property & Content License
You retain ownership of the content you post on 22-LIFE. However, by posting content on this platform, you grant 22-LIFE a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, distribute, and reproduce that content solely for the purpose of operating and promoting the platform. This license ends when you delete your content or your account.
You represent and warrant that you own or have the right to post any content you submit, and that your content does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party. 22-LIFE is not responsible for content posted by users.
The 22-LIFE name, logo, and platform design are the intellectual property of 22-LIFE and may not be used, copied, or reproduced without prior written permission.
11. Privacy & Data
By creating an account, you provide us with personal information including your name, email address, and optional profile details. We use this information solely to operate the platform, verify accounts, and communicate with you about your account.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We may use third-party services (such as cloud storage and analytics) that process data on our behalf, and those services are bound by their own privacy policies.
A full Privacy Policy will be published separately as this platform continues to develop. By using 22-LIFE, you acknowledge and consent to the data practices described here.
12. Platform Status & Section 230
22-LIFE is an interactive computer service as defined under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (47 U.S.C. § 230). We are not the publisher or speaker of user-generated content posted on this platform. 22-LIFE is not liable for content created or posted by users. We reserve the right, but not the obligation, to monitor, edit, or remove content at our discretion.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
22-LIFE is provided “as is” and “as available” without any warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
22-LIFE is not a licensed mental health provider, medical service, or crisis intervention organization. Nothing on this platform constitutes professional mental health advice. In a mental health emergency, contact a licensed professional or call 988 immediately.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, 22-LIFE, its operators, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the platform, including but not limited to loss of data, personal injury, or emotional distress resulting from user-generated content.
In no event shall 22-LIFE's total liability to you for any claims arising from use of the platform exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid to use the platform in the twelve months prior to the claim, or (b) one hundred dollars ($100.00).
15. Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms of Use are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising out of or related to these terms or your use of 22-LIFE shall be resolved through binding arbitration on an individual basis. You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against 22-LIFE.
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
16. Support Rooms & Verified Access
22-LIFE's Support Rooms are restricted spaces reserved exclusively for veterans, active duty service members, reservists, prior service members, and first responders. Access to these rooms requires completing the in-app verification process.
By completing the verification process, you affirm under penalty of account termination that:
- The information you have provided about your service status, branch, years of service, and unit or agency is accurate and truthful.
- You are who you claim to be with respect to your military or first responder service.
- You understand that providing false information to gain access to Support Rooms is a violation of these Community Guidelines and may result in immediate and permanent ban from the platform.
Support Rooms exist because the people in them have earned a space of their own. Misrepresenting your service to gain access is a violation of the trust of every verified member in that space. 22-LIFE takes this seriously and will act accordingly. Reports of suspected fraudulent verification can be submitted through the report function or by contacting us directly.
17. Changes to These Terms
As this platform grows, these terms may be updated. We will communicate major changes to our community. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. The current version is always available at this page.
Note: These terms are a working document and will be formally reviewed and finalized by legal counsel as 22-LIFE continues to develop.
